About Us

Knowlex and Scottish Healthcare Governing Bodies are collaborating to host IPC/HFM Improving Services to Reduce Infection 2022 – Scotland’s first-ever national-conference to not only address the challenge of reducing HCAIs (Healthcare-Acquired Infection) but also the difficulties facing the facilities management teams in keeping our hospitals open and safe for business.

This CPD-accredited event will bring together policy-makers, leaders and key-professionals from all elements of the Scottish healthcare structure.

Scotland has led the UK in terms of best practice for many years and, is now entering a period of massive reform, change and growth. As new public-bodies such as Assure and the National Care Service find their feet and take shape, it is critical that the teams that keep us infection-free whilst receiving treatment, are at the cutting edge of the process.

Understandably, efforts have been latterly focused on response to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there is still an urgent requirement to drive down long-standing HCAIs (C-Diff, MRSA, Gram-Negative Bloodstream infections etc); and a growing need to reflect on the global threat of AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) and how we can deliver better antibiotic stewardship.

This new conference will highlight that is not just Infection Prevention Teams that tackle HCAIs. ‘Soft FM’ teams are often the unsung heroes that allow hospitals to provide hands-on clinical treatment.

Cleaning, hygiene, portering, waste-management and foodservice professionals are the heartbeat of a healthcare facility, and now is the right time to increase recognition of their contribution and improve their skillsets in supporting the fight against HCAIs.

The first-part of the conference will bring together infection preventionists and soft facilities management teams to jointly examine and understand cleaning protocols and infection prevention best practice.

Delegates will then ‘split’, into two, for the second-part of the conference, so these respective disciplines can focus on the latest developments in their speciality.
An onsite-exhibition will showcase, to conference delegates, the latest in infection prevention and control innovation, insight and technology solutions.

“Building on work already in place, there should be further visible and systematic planning for strengthening coordination between IPC and Facilities and Estates, particularly with respect to forward planning in addressing continuing infection risks”
